Watford's MP, Claire Ward, has praised the work of Hertfordshire County Council's children's department in opening 50 Sure Start centres by the beginning of April this year.
Claire said: "These children's centres are a vital part of the Government's plans to improve childcare by bringing together a range of health a community services under one roof. The six that have been opened in Watford are already making a difference to the families they serve. The County Council set themselves a high target and they have managed to achieve it in a very short length of time. It's an example which I hope will be followed by other councils around the country,
By 2010 there will be 82 Sure Start children's centres in Hertfordshire. providing integrated early learning and childcare for babies and children as well as antenatal and employments advice and support for families with special needs.
