Claire Ward has had talks with Post Office officials in London to ask them to justify their planned closure of three post offices in Watford.
Claire said, ‘I understand that the Post Office needs to review their position as 75% of their branches are unprofitable and the network is losing £500,000 a day.
But Post Office branches still provide an invaluable facility for local communities not least in Watford.’
Whatever the national strategy -it is still up to the Post Office to justify why these 3 post offices have been earmarked for closure. I am particularly concerned that the Post Office has been unable to give good reasons as to why - for example - they have chosen the Bradshaw Branch in Bushey Mill Lane and not the Highwood Branch. When I asked officials for detailed comparisons they were unable to give them which undermines the decision making process in my view.
My constituents deserve to have the full information as part of the consultation process. I shall continue to hold the Post Office to account. “
