Labour win in Watford

Claire has congratulated Labour's winning candidate in the recent local elections -Mohammed Taj -who won Vicarage ward with 911 votes - 120 more than his nearest Liberal Democrat rival.

The MP said it just shows what can be done with a good campaign team and a determination to win against all the odds.

"In spite of an all out effort by the Liberal Democrats their share of the vote went down this year and they were unable to deliver a knockout blow to the Tories in Nascot ward."

Labour has reduced the Liberal Democrat majority within Watford Borough Council by one seat - the only change in an otherwise predictable local election.

Watford Borough Council now consists of 28 Liberal Democrats, three Labour, three Conservatives and three Green councillors, including Mayor Dorothy Thornhill (Lib Dem).
