Mrs Mavis Tyrwhitt - a long serving member of the League of Friends at Watford General Hospital, was amongst several hundred health service volunteers who attended a reception hosted by the Prime Minister at No 10 Downing Street earlier this month.

Claire presented prizes at a recent Tag Festival organised by local rugby team -Saracens at Watford Rugby club. The event is part of the Hertfordshire school sports partnership and involved playing and coaching sessions for nearly 200 young people. |
Claire gave birth to a baby boy at Watford General Hospital's maternity unit in February. The MP and her husband John have named the new arrival Oliver Louis Simpson and he weighed in at a healthy 7lb 9ozs.

During a recent visit to Watford, Housing Minister Caroline Flint faced questions from members of the Watford Housing Community Trust.
Ms Flint, who was accompanied by Claire Ward, met officer and members of the trust, many of whom are tenants themselves, and she heard how residents have a say on all key decisions that will affect their homes and communities. |
Another of the Government's pioneering children's centres has been opened by Claire. The Sunshine Children's Centre in Oxhey is one hundreds of Sure Start centres being set up across the country with the aim of bringing together early years education, childcare as well as health and family support services. Helping Claire to cut the ribbon at the opening was four year old Alex Dent. |
Government minister Barbara Follett MP visited Watford General Hospital with Claire for a briefing about plans for the Health Campus.
Ms Follett, who is Minister for the East of England, said she was "genuinely excited" by the huge redevelopment project.

Claire helped West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust kick off the New Year with a bang when she helped demolish the Postgraduate Medical Centre at Watford General Hospital.
The building is being demolished in order to site a new Acute Admissions Unit adjacent to the existing A&E department. |
More than £24,000 raised from the Big Herts Walk held in Cassiobury Park last September and the money has been split equally between Watford Mencap, the Peace Hospice and Watford New Hope Trust. The cheques were presented to reprsenatives of the charities by Claire Ward and Bharat Shah, managing director of Sigma Pharmaceuticals who organises the annual event.

Cheques for more than £2,000 were presented to the Toy Library at the Berrygrove Chilren's Centre in St Albans Road, by Claire Ward.
The money was donated by six local companies who sponsored Claire's annual Christmas card competition with local schools. The winning design of an angel was submitted by 11 year old Alice Taylor of St Michael's Catholic High School in Garston. |

One of Claire's most recent achievements was the very successful campaign around Watford FC's midfield player, Al Bangura. With the support of the club and thousands of fans the player was eventually granted a temporary work permit to remain in the country and continue his football career.
